Chemical Imbalance:

A Jekyll & Hyde Play

Directed by Chad Hsu

About the play:

A deliciously dark comedy with a wicked grin, Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play is the kind of show actors love sinking their teeth into. It’s fast, clever, gloriously unhinged, and every role is a playground for bold choices, physical comedy, and fearless theatricality.

Set in a prim-and-proper Victorian household that’s barely holding itself together, the play follows young Dr. Henry Jekyll as he experiments with a mysterious potion that unleashes his inner Hyde—an impulsive, murderous, delightfully chaotic alter ego. As Hyde’s antics escalate, the household spirals into a whirlwind of misunderstandings, near misses, and outrageous behavior.

If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner monster, perfect your Victorian fainting spell, or commit wholeheartedly to comedic madness, Chemical Imbalance is calling your name. It’s a show that rewards creativity, bold choices, and pure theatrical joy.

Dr. Henry Jekyll / Mr. Hyde (male-presenting) - A brilliant, awkward, well-meaning scientist whose experiments unleash his feral, murderous alter ego.

Euphronia Jekyll (any gender) - Society matron and Jekyll’s mother.

Ambrosia Jekyll (female-presenting) -  Euphronia’s daughter—a brilliant, sharp-tongued Victorian woman whose intellect rivals Jekyll’s, but whose social graces… do not.

Lady Throckmortonshire (any gender) - A grand, aristocratic matriarch with a flair for dramatic propriety and a tendency to faint at the slightest impropriety.

Calliope & Penelope Throckmortonshire (female-presenting; characters approximately age 9; may be portrayed by adults) -  The twins of Lady Throckmortonshire. Calliope is well-behaved; Penelope is not.

Rosamunda Dewthistle (female-presenting) -  Jekyll’s sweet, sensible, and determinedly optimistic fiancée. She’s the emotional anchor amid the madness.

Plodgett (any gender; Scottish accent preferred) - The chef—stoic, deadpan, and perpetually unimpressed by the chaos around them.

Constable (any gender; Irish accent preferred; may be doubled with Ambrosia) - Investigates the strange occurrences.

Police Lieutenant (any gender; may be doubled with Xavier) - The Constable’s superior.

Performance dates are October 15-18 and October 26-29, 2026
